computer recognition of signs

[Audio: French; Subtitles: English; Languages: French, English, FSL]

Some pretty cool work being done here. There are several similar projects underway, but this one’s using a neural network algorithm, which has the potential for recognizing more subtle gestures plus matching up a wider range of variation (among different people) to the same sign.

It took me a moment to realize the signs demonstrated were in French Sign Language 🙂 The signs are recognizeable but just different enough to give one pause.
