I’ve never been a general fan of schlepping food all over, although I acknowledge that when you live in a wintry climate, it’s nice to get food from warmer places you wouldn’t otherwise. But there’s a high price paid for all that food. The obvious ones are of course the petroleum spent in said schlepping. But the other problem which has gotten attention this year, is getting produce from places that may have different, ah, standards of food production: FDA bans seafood from China.
So get out there and support your local farmers’ markets!
