I’ve been watching the news of the Gaza pullout, hoping that there isn’t too much violence, which there doesn’t seem to be, yet. One thing that’s struck me in all the current news, though, is the constant refrain that Israel “has never” pulled out of territory before.
That simply ain’t true. In 1982 as part of the negotiated peace with Egypt, Israel ceded the Sinai peninsula and took down at least one settlement, Yamit. I went a’digging and found these links:
